What are Premium Domain Names?
Premium domain names are domains that are typically sought after and sell for a higher price. Premium domains usually fall into one of two categories.
- Aftermarket Premium: Where a domain name is already registered and is therefore available to purchase at a premium price, set by the current owner of the domain name. These domain names often renew at the regular price, but the upfront cost of purchasing the domain name can be sizable, depending on the seller.
- Registry Premium: Where a domain is designated as premium by the registry, meaning the registration, renewal and transfer price all tend to be much higher than the usual price. The registry of the TLD sets these prices, and 20i has no control over the pricing, nor does it have the ability to negotiate these prices with the registry. The registry can determine if a domain name is a premium domain, even after it has been registered, as the registry marks domains as premium if they are judged to have market value, often due to the domain being catchy or short.
What makes a domain name 'premium'?
Premium domains tend to be popular, one-word domains that often include keywords such as 'shop', 'car', etc. These domains are seen as attractive for branding and online presence. They also maintain a high resale value.
